"A Macedonian app built for civic ecology, where anyone can report illegal dumps, littering, or pollution." That is how Kanal 5 introduced Chisto.mk to its viewers on the morning show Zdravo Makedonijo.
The guest was Ivan Mitkovski, co-founder and CTO of the platform, who talked about how the app came to be, how it works, and what comes next now that it is available on the App Store and Google Play
From frustration to platform
The idea, as he told the show, was born out of everyday frustration. Posts about garbage on social media are quickly forgotten, the anger lasts a few days, and rarely does anything change.
"Chisto.mk is a social network where people do not post photos from vacations and beaches, but of the garbage around us. We start solving a problem the moment we look it in the eye." Ivan Mitkovski, co-founder and CTO of Chisto.mk
A process that fits in one sentence
He also walked through the entire flow:
- A green button. A new report starts with a single tap.
- A photo and a location. A few details about the place and the type of pollution.
- The public map. After review, the report is visible to everyone and stays there until it is resolved.
A map instead of orders
The role of municipal services came up as well. The platform does not assign work to anyone. The map of reports reveals the hotspots, so cleanup actions, both civic and institutional, can go where they are needed most. As a next step, Mitkovski announced direct cooperation with municipal enterprises and other stakeholders.
